Carbon compounds are mostly covalent compounds. In covalent compounds, atoms share electrons instead of forming strong electrostatic attractions like ionic compounds.
Because of this, the intermolecular forces between carbon compound molecules are weak. Less energy is needed to separate them, so they have low melting and boiling points, even if the molecules are large.
